Group Learning

Outdoor Explorations for Homeschoolers!

During the school year, we offer a series of environmental education programs developed especially for homeschoolers ages 4 to 12. Program sessions are offered once a month on Thursdays with morning or afternoon sessions available. Weather permitting, all programs are held outdoors at the Nature Center.

  Programs begin at 9:30 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. and last 1.5 – 2 hours, depending on child’s age.

•  A portion of most programs will be held outdoors­, so please dress appropriately.

•  Handouts will be available as appropriate.

•  Non-participants are welcome to remain at the Interpretive Center at no additional cost.

New Offering!
For Homeschool Students
Ages 13-15

As an extension of our homeschool programs, we would like to add a very exciting series of classes designed for homeschool students ages 13 to 15.  The course is offered once a month for four months on Wednesday's from 1:00- 3:00pm.  Plan on spending most of the classtime outdoors. Pre-registration and a minimum for 8 students required by Friday, December 21. 

Trail Busters!, January 9, February 13, March 12, and April 2, 2008
Interested in letterboxing and geocaching? Let's go off the beaten path while navigating with compasses and GPS units.  Along the way we will be learning about and practicing a Leave No Trace Ethic. We will be:
   • learning how to use a compass and GPS unit.
   • geochaching to find hidden treasure
   • designing and hiding our own letterboxes and geocaches for Nature Center visitors
   • finding out how scientists use GPS systems in their research
