Teen Camps: Grades 9-10
Session 1 & 2: Counselor in Training
Get a head start on your camp counseling skills with our Counselor in Training program! This two week program will give you the essential job skills and employment training experience. The first week learn how to work as a team, discover your leadership skills, and practice being a positive role model for youth. Expand your nature knowledge and
learn to use games and songs to help kids grow . The second week you will be assigned a camper group and work directly with kids and counselors. This training required for consideration to participate in our teen volunteer counselor program for summer camp.

Session 1 & 2: Heronwood Field Research Apprentice
Interested in joining the Heronwood field team to explore nature and make discoveries? Join the two-week Field Research Apprentice program to learn how experiments and nature studies are done in the great outdoors! In the first week build a team and design your own experiments to answer questions about nature. Hone your scientific mind and leadership skills through challenge course activities and adventure hikes at the private Heronwood Field Station. The second week will include a three-day, two-night camping trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore to explore the rich biological diversity of Michigan’s coastline with experienced field scientists. After the program, you will be prepared to work directly with researchers in the Citizen Science teams at KNC!
“HERONWOOD FIELD RESEARCH APPRENTICE” TRAINING Weekdays June 18-29, 9am-5pm. Sleeping Bear Dunes Exploration: June 27-29 (3-Day, 2-night camping trip) Tents and meals are provided for the camping trip. Tents are shared with same gender campers only.
