Ecological Management and Servicesview of the Urban Nature Park

The Ecological Management and Services team is a service of the Kalamazoo Nature Center designed to work with private and public landowners. From pre-project data collection to post-project monitoring, Conservation Stewardship's Ecological Management Services provides all levels of ecological management.

Recent Projects: Urban Nature Park

The Urban Nature Park project is one of many efforts to restore and revitalize downtown Kalamazoo and its waterways. Plans to restore the historic railroad bridge across Portage creek are underway.

Great Lakes Ecological Management provides:

Knowing what you have is the first step in sound ecological management.  Our pre-project assessment evaluates your property in a way that meets your goals and your budget. We can provide:

-All taxa biological inventory

-Wildlife management plan creation

-Habitat delineation

-Map creation using GPS/GIS technology

-Wetland delineation

-Wetland permitting

-Grant and funding procurement

Natural Areas Management

Once a plan is developed, the team goes to work to put your plan in action.  We have the training and certifications necessary to implement your plan with the highest standards of efficiency and safety using appropriate techniques including prescribed burning and biological, chemical, and mechanical controls. We can provide:

-Invasive species managementPrescribed fire in West Fen

-Shoreline restoration

-Habitat restoration

-Rare and protected species management

-Native plant installation

-Prescribed fire

-Aquatic habitat management

-Pollinator gardens

-Rain gardens

Monitoring and Maintenance
