Adopt an Animal

Symbolically adopting an animal is an exciting way to support KNC's animal care and learn more about these amazing animals.

Your adoption:
• helps to provide care for an animal at KNC
• gives an unreleasable animal a permanent home (they will live and be cared for here at KNC)
• supports educational programming

Meet & Greet with your Adopted Animal

For an additional $15, you can meet your adopted animal with a trained educator ready to answer your questions. These one-on-one, 15 minute meet & greets take place Saturdays from 10 am - 4 pm.  During the meet and greets, birds cannot be handled by anyone except their caregivers; however, all other animals can be touched if you like.  Upon adoption, simply call the KNC Registrar to set up your time.

Ruby throated Hummingbird

Adopt a Hummingbird

The Kalamazoo Valley Bird Observatory (KVBO) has been using bird banding as a tool to help better understand migration patterns, longevity, dispersal and stop over of both breeding and migrating birds at our two locations, the Kalamazoo Nature Center and Pitsfield, for over 30 years.

Adopting a Hummingbird is a unique and rewarding way to help our bird banding program and contribute to our bird banding program studies.

When you adopt a hummingbird for $25, you will receive:
•  A certificate with your name and a profile for an individual hummingbird banded through KVBO.
•  A guarantee that you will be notified if your hummingbird is ever recaptured … anywhere!
•  The satisfaction of knowing that your adoption is helping KVBO with important research.

Adopt a Monarch

Your adoption supports MiBN's research of Michigan's changing populations and quality of Michigan ecosystems. It also suports our engagement of the Michigan public in significant community science research. Monarch Butterfly tagging happens during the late summer at KNC. Check out the Calendar for Tagging Day events.

When you adopt a Monarch for $25, you will receive:

  • A certificate with your name, a full-color photograph, and a profile for a Monarch butterfly.
  • The satisfaction of knowing that your adoption is helping the Michigan Butterfly Network with important research.
