Meet the Nature's Way Preschool Staff

Our staff is dedicated to the mission of connecting children with nature while at the same time building competencies that will allow each student to develop into a successful kindergartner in a caring and safe environment.


Heather Parker Goetzinger:  Director, North classroom teacher 3 day a.m.
Heather became director of Nature’s Way in 2011.  She has a BS in Early Childhood Education from MSU and a Master of Education from GVSU.  She has been a Young Fives teacher and a Headstart Director.  Her children Paige (16), Ella (15), and Spencer (11) are all proud alumni of Nature’s Way Preschool.  Her love for NWP began as a parent and continues as an educator, experiencing the power of nature play every day. 

Brenda Mohill:  Asst. Director, North classroom teacher 3 day p.m., 2 day a.m., 2 day p.m.
Brenda has worked for KNC since 1985, and has been at Nature’s Way for 23 years.  Her daughter and son both attended NWP, her daughter in the first class in 1982.  Brenda loves to share her love of nature with her students.  When she is not at NWP, she likes to travel to the U.P, go horseback riding, and spend time with her two grandsons.

Shannon McLeese:  North classroom teacher, all sessions
Shannon joined the Nature’s Way team in 2016.  She has a BS in Zoology from MSU and an Early Childhood/Elementary teaching certification.  She is currently working on her Master of Arts in Teaching through Miami University.  Shannon has worked as a zoo educator at Binder Park School and taught kindergarten in Texas.  She loves working with young children and sharing her enthusiasm for animals, nature, and the outdoors with her students.

Meri Morrow:  North classroom teacher, 2 day a.m., substitute all sessions
Meri graduated from WMU with a Bachelor of Science in Education with minors in Art, Science and early childhood education. She has 18 years experience teaching children of various ages, pre-K through eighth grade. Meri’s son PJ attended Nature’s Way Preschool.  She loves watching children grow and learn in nature!

Holly Morris:  South classroom teacher, all sessions
Holly had been a teacher at Nature’s Way since 2006.  She has a BS in Elementary Education with an Early Childhood Endorsement from WMU.  She loves exploring nature with young children, especially her daughter Wren, age 2.  In her spare time, she also enjoys music with her husband in a few local bands:  Tambourina , Overly Polite Tornados, and Glowfriends.     

Lindsey Homan:  South classroom teacher, 3 day a.m., 3 day p.m.
Lindsey comes to NWP with over 15 years experience with young children and their families.  She holds a degree in Early Childhood Education with teacher licensure from National Louis University as well as a Master of Education from the Erikson Institute.  When not at school, she enjoys spending time with her husband, her son Teddy (future NWP all star!) and their very spoiled Rottweiler Sophie, attending library story times, and the dog beach.

Michele VanAllen, South classroom teacher, 2 day a.m., 2 day p.m.
Michele has been a preschool teacher, a reading tutor,  and has volunteered at NWP and KNC over the last 6-7 years in a variety of programs.  She has a BS in Environmental Science from MSU and is currently pursuing a Master of Education at WMU.  She has been married to Erik for 26 years and they have two girls, Kara and Mia, who are also working on college degrees, a dog named Daisy and a cat named Ozma.

Jennifer Cox:  Substitute teacher all sessions
Jen joined the Nature’s Way  family first as a parent to Charlie (7) and Emily (5), who both were students at NWP.  She began subbing for our program in 2017.  Jen earned a BS in Elementary Education with an Early Childhood Endorsement from WMU.   

Kai McDonald:  Substitute teacher, Tues/Thurs p.m.
Kai has been an educator for 15 years, teaching a variety of levels from kindergarten to young adults. She has a BS in Special Education from WMU with endorsements in Cognitive Impairments and Autism Spectrum Disorder, as well as a Masters in Education Administration from Wayne State University. Kai, and her husband Matt, have two children: Emmett, a Nature's Way alumni, and Morgan, who currently attends Nature's Way.

Sabrina Stempek:  Substitute teacher Mondays and Fridays
Sabrina is a former NWP mom who joined the NWP teaching team as a substitute in 2018.  She has a BS in Interdisciplinary Health Services and an MS in Occupational Therapy, both from WMU. Sabrina currently practices school-based OT part-time.  She and her husband Scott have two “nature girls”: Lillian (7) and Amelia (5), both NWP alum.
