Local Lands Series: Discovering Trees and Forests
Wednesday, November 1, 5:30-7:00 pm
Connecting deeply to the natural world in the place we live in is a guiding principle for KNC. This new series will be a place to learn from local experts about our local ecology, landscapes, environmental issues, flora and fauna, and our human interactions with the world we are part of.
- Wednesday, November 1, 5:30-7:00 pm: Discovering Trees & Forests with Jessica Simons
This program will provide participants with new ways to understand and enjoy the experience of visiting forests at the Kalamazoo Nature Center. Hiking and exploring nature can sometimes feel intimidating if you don’t have much experience. This single, 1.5-hour session will share new skills for observing and understanding forests in Michigan. The course will include tree identification basics, “forest detective” strategies to look for clues about the land’s history, and information about forest conservation. Please come prepared with appropriate clothing and footwear to hike outdoors in current weather conditions. Participants should meet at the entrance benches adjacent to the main parking lot.
Fee: $7/Member, $10/Non-Member. Register or drop in. | Audience: Adults
