The Kalamazoo Nature Center received an Excellent Accessibility Verification rating of 4.68 after a visit from Wheel the World, a travel site specializing in accessible tourism for people with disabilities and older adults. Representatives from Wheel the World visited KNC in April, 2026 to take measurements of spaces and photos for use on their site. About the Trackchair STS: The Trackchair® STS includes the 20-amp battery charger, auxiliary tilt-on-the-fly mechanism, cushioned arm rests, fixed footrest (adjustable for height), Type I or Type II tracks, rear stability wheels, lap seatbelt, dual-port USB charger, battery charger plug-in port, independent flip-up arms, and a torsion arm suspension system with automatic track tensioning. About the GRIT Freedom Chairs: These all-terrain wheelchairs are available in adult and youth sizes and are specially designed for trail use. With their innovative design, these chairs allow individuals with mobility challenges to explore the beautiful trails and natural scenery at the Center. The GRIT Freedom Chairs offer a unique combination of durability and ease of use, ensuring that everyone can enjoy an inclusive outdoor experience. See the chairs here >
Please note, chair availability is dependent on seasonal trail conditions. Chairs can be checked out for use on the Habitat Haven Trail and throughout the Arboretum.
Visitor Center Accessibility Our Visitor Center includes accessible pathways, restrooms, and exhibit areas. Recent upgrades—including improved flooring, acoustic materials, and renovated spaces—enhance comfort, accessibility, and the overall visitor experience.

- Call (269) 381 1574 Ext. 0 to make an advance reservation (24-hour notice is preferred) during Visitor Center hours: 9 am – 5 pm Monday-Saturday, 1-5 pm Sunday.
- Chairs are available daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Due to battery life, there’s one two-hour reservation available each day.
- Only for Habitat Haven and Arboretum Trails.
- Ages 18 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
