Celebrate Earth Day with us and participate in exciting activities all day long.
- Take part in KNC’s first official BioBlitz, a community science project to identify wildlife, with guided hikes to identify plants, insects, and more.
- Enjoy activities in the visitor center like crafts and listen to Earth Day-themed talks from local experts.
- Visit vendors for food, drink, and local businesses and artists.
Schedule of Events
10:00-11:00: Birding Hike- Start your day with the sounds of birdsong, where some of KNC’s best and birdiest will lead you on a search for the beautiful birds of spring. Location: Visitor Center
10:00-12:00: Strawberry Vine Pulling- Stop by DeLano Farms to lend a hand with strawberry vine propagation, and take home a baby strawberry plant of your own to start your growing season off right! Capacity is limited. Location: DeLano Farm
11:15-11:45: Intro to iNaturalist– iNaturalist is a citizen science platform used worldwide to share identifications and observations with scientists and nature lovers. We’ll go over a quick overview, and learn how to use this great resource! Location: Auditorium
12:00-1:00: BioBlitz Exploration Hike– Come participate in KNC’s first Earth Day BioBlitz- a celebration of ecology and citizen science! We’ll explore the trails together, and submit our findings to a database on the iNaturalist platform to learn more about the organisms that call KNC home. Location: Visitor Center
1:00-2:00: Delano Hike- Did you know we have trails on the Delano Farms property? Many of us go years without exploring the other half of our trails, and Earth Day is a great opportunity for a guided hike through these often unseen beautiful trails. Location: DeLano Farm
2:00-3:00: Plants and Climate Change- Join Dr. David Karowe for a fascinating talk on the ways that our native plants are being affected by climate change, and how our local ecosystems shift with the pressure of human impact. Location: Auditorium
