Homeschool at KNC

Homeschool families—come join the fun at the Kalamazoo Nature Center! Each month, homeschool students can experience the excitement of a school field trip, complete with hands-on exploration and outdoor adventures. Come dressed for all weather. Parents are not required to stay on campus. Discover, explore, and learn at KNC—homeschool style! 

We’ve got TWO amazing programs: Wander and Wonder is open-ended for ages 8-12 with foundational writing skills. Explorations is designed for ages 5-9 with a loosely structured format. Children are welcome to join either (or both!) if they fall within the age ranges. Choose the option that fits your family best!

Fee: KNC Members $14, $10 each additional child / Non-Members $20, $10 each additional child

Homeschool: Wander and Wonder 

Thursdays, February 19, March 19, April 16, and May 21
1:30-3:30 pm

Come explore the great outdoors at the Kalamazoo Nature Center! Each month, homeschool students ages 8–12 will dive into a new theme through guided hikes, engaging storytelling, hands-on nature observation, and creative journaling. With a blend of writing and artwork, students will sharpen their observation skills while building a deeper connection to the natural world.  Participants should have foundational reading and writing skills. 

February 19 theme:  Nature’s Restaurant – Who eats whom?

March theme:  Trees in Winter 

April theme:  Birds of Michigan 

May theme:  Incredible Insects 

Homeschool: Explorations 

Thursdays, March 5, and May 7
1:30-3:30 pm

This drop-off program is designed for ages 5–9 and brings learning to life through nature-based activities. One month you might dig into our gravel pit while uncovering Michigan’s natural resources, and the next you could meet KNC’s amazing Animal Ambassadors up close!
