4/23/2025 – 4/30/2025
This last week there was an excellent movement of birds, especially on April 25th and the 30th which added 26 new birds to bring our season total to 97 species. The warm weather also brought about the emergence of the turtles like the beautiful Eastern Box Turtle I saw on the 24th. The highlights this past week were the American Redstart, Black-and-white, Blackburnian, Blue-winged, Magnolia, Nashville, and Palm Warblers along with the Ovenbird. A Kentucky Warbler was briefly heard by a couple local birders but was never seen. I didn’t add it to this list because I did not hear the bird and arrived just a few minutes too late. Hopefully it will show itself in the next week. I always enjoy the return of the Orioles and Grosbeaks, and both species have visited my feeders at home. The month of May is here so you can look forward to new species arriving every day now so get out there because it will be over before you know it.
